TR-069 ACS APPLICATIONS

Practical applications currently supported by DMS include the following:

  • New subscriber activation - When a user selects a service package from a service provider’s web-based ordering system or telephone sales associate, the subscriber’s configuration information is passed from the sales system to the DMS for activation.
  • End user moves – When a subscriber moves to a new location, all configuration of that subscriber’s CPE can be automatically sent, eliminating the need for a truck roll or technical support incident.
  • CPE replacement or upgrades – The automatic nature of the configuration system lends itself to elegant CPE changes, minimizing the chance that a subscriber must configure their CPE.
  • Voice over IP – Changes to a subscribers VoIP profile such as a new phone number, inclusion or deletion of value-add services is done seamlessly. New configuration settings, as well as new features and services are delivered to the subscriber automatically.
  • IPTV – Subscriptions to channels and pay-per-view movies may be managed and delivered to the subscriber automatically.
  • Home Monitoring – Remotely monitor home and alert subscriber as necessary.
  • Infrastructure – When infrastructure items (i.e. DSLAM, SIP Server) are TR-069 enabled the whole management aspect becomes very powerful. For example, should a SIP Server experience heavy load (or any unusual situation), the TR-069 server can automatically reconfigure all devices not on a call to connect to another SIP Server so the subscriber never sees the problem. Or, should backbone links become congested with too much traffic, TR-069-based infrastructure management adds an intelligent layer, allowing for end-to-end proactive problem resolution, based on an industry standard solution.
  • Value Added Services - TR-069's "Voucher" mechanism allows the automated billing, delivery and activation of value-added services. A wide variety of services, from the SPAM scanner that is billed on a per-monthly basis to an electronically downloaded movie rental that is automatically "returned" after a fixed period or number of viewings may be enabled using this mechanism. Software as a Service is another revenue stream that is enabled via TR-069's voucher mechanism.
